The Creeds

The creeds are not a second Bible. They are the church saying back, in a few careful sentences, what Scripture had already said, usually because someone had started saying something else. We walk the Apostles' Creed line by line, then the councils that put words around who Christ is: Nicaea on his divinity, Chalcedon on his two natures, and the Athanasian Creed on the Trinity. If Scripture alone is our authority, a creed is a summary we can check against it, which is exactly how we use them.
